MIGRATION AUDIO ARTS TRAIL
This audio trail was created through community workshops hosted by Hellens Garden Festival. It brings together voices, memories, and personal stories—inviting listeners to pause, reflect, and reconnect with the land.
We’ve had the absolute pleasure of working with volunteers from Hellens Manor, garden volunteers from St Michael’s Hospice, women from the local Ukrainian community, and Year 3 pupils from Mordiford Primary School. Those involved were invited to reflect on their connection to nature, sharing personal memories of gardening and growing – what it offers them, how it makes them feel, and the deeper meaning it holds in their lives.
Each audio stop is marked by a ‘Journey Stick’—created by project participants and local artists Lynda Whitehouse and Catherine Martin. As more people add their own contributions, each stick becomes a living symbol of shared experience, storytelling, and connection.
The Wellie Path was created during our workshops with pupils from Mordiford Primary School, Hellens volunteers, and members of the Ukrainian community. Each welly represents a personal journey, with its design reflecting the individual’s thoughts, feelings, and stories—coming together to form a colourful trail of shared experience and expression, one foot step at a time.
Through storytelling, art, and time in nature, we aim to bridge communities and cultivate inclusive, nurturing spaces. Gardening and connection to the natural world offer deep therapeutic benefits—especially for those experiencing trauma or isolation. By building trust and connection through the universal languages of sound, storytelling and nature, this project celebrates healing, unity, and our shared relationship with the earth.
A heartfelt thank you to Ledbury Refugee Support, HVOSS, St Michael’s Hospice, Mordiford Primary School, and Hellens Manor for their support and collaboration.
