Jen Keen

I’m Jen – All-Agog, and I’m a lampshade loon, passionate about using up some of the vast quantities of stuff destined for landfill. A Gog from North Wales, I’m now found hiding in the trees with a pack of silly hounds in the border lands on the banks of the River Wye playing with beautiful fabrics. I create traditional hand bound, hand sewn statement lampshades of all shapes and sizes using reclaimed frames headed for landfill. I create one off lamp bases too using a unique process of lino carving and casting in plaster. I also create mini fairy light lampshades made from repurposed used taster glasses, and textile eco-scapes and accessories to ensure all that valuable fabric is used up with no waste. Using a mix of traditional and contemporary skills and materials, I thrive on reimagining some of the vast quantities of stuff already out there into new, beautiful, and long-lasting decorative items. The V&A write of the Arts and Crafts movement that it was ‘born out of understanding that society needed to adopt a new set of principles in manufacturing objects that had more integrity and made in a less dehumanising way’… which I believe is as vital, valid, meaningful, and imperative in our current climate as it ever was. I enjoy taking bespoke commissions and will also happily revive and recover your own lampshade frames.

Jenny’s work will be displayed at our Waste Hub over the festival weekend – we are excited about this edition, adding some visual theatre to our interactive waste area!
